Post Game Blog, BPL

What a day of soccer.  Waking up this morning excited for our game at 5pm and the chance for our guys to bounce back with a win I also had the BPL to watch.  The English and Welsh Premier League as i think they call it now with 10% of the league being Welsh.  Man Utd and Liverpool started the morning and an early goal by Liverpool would be enough in an exciting encounter to beat the current champs and move top of the league.  A first win of the season for my favorite Welsh team Swansea was a great start to the day with some eggs, coffee and toast sitting on the couch taking it all in.    With breakfast over I still had time to watch the London derby of Arsenal and Spurs before I left for the office which again was a super game and decided by a single goal scored early by Arsenal.  What a great last 5 minutes watching Arsenal defend for their lives and getting the result.  If we defend like that today we'll be in good shape. If the players didn't get outta bed to watch these then its a shame.

Needing to bounce back after Fridays loss we started the game well and continued to possess the ball for long periods of the first half.  Higgins picked up where he left off from Fridays game and looked dangerous everytime he got the ball but we could not quite find that finishing touch in front of goal.  Then it came, a pass from Ranalli to Heine who then served an early ball into the box with pace for Forrest to flick home into the Howard goal.  The half would stay at 1-0 with our guys having the lions share of possession but Howard still looking dangerous on the break.

Second half was probably our best half of our season so far.  Sure in possession and now moving the ball quicker and isolating guys out wide we continued to probe for an opening and after some half chances went begging we scored again.  Almost a mirror image of the first goal only this time it was Forrest passing to Heine who again put in a quality serve and Ranalli was there to finish it off.  Howard continued to push numbers forwards but our defense held firm.  As the game opened up Forrest almost put the game beyond reach from a clever pass from Khan but his shot went agonizingly wide, Grevelink came off the bench and was fractionally offside after rounding the keeper after a good move but there would be no more goals and we would see out the win 2-0.

A very pleasing display in what was a physical encounter.  We created more chances than last game and possessed the ball better so each game we're fine tuning and getting a little better.  So happy for the players they deserved this and worked their socks off today to achieve it.  Preparation starts tomorrow for out next game on the road Friday against LIU.
